About Us
Global Media Finances Map is a project of the Media and Journalism Research Center, a think tank that specializes in carrying out media research.
The Global Media Finances Map monitors the financial performance of about 24,000 media companies in 60 countries. Data collection for the Global Media Finances Map has been carried out since 2004 under the supervision of Marius Dragomir, a journalist, media expert, and scholar who is now the Media and Journalism Research Center director.
Overall, during this period, more than 400 researchers have participated in conducting research that has been used to create this database as part of various projects, including Television Across Europe, Mapping Digital Media, and the ongoing Media Influence Matrix and State Media Monitor.
The media companies database is updated regularly by a team of experts at the Media and Journalism Research Center based on data provided through trade registries in the countries covered. The database is to expand to 80 countries by June 2026.
The center does not accept funding from governments or media companies to conduct this research. The Global Media Finances Map project is fully funded through the MJRC research fund, which is fully generated by the center’s externally financed or commercial project activities. Part of the research is carried out through partnerships between MJRC and academic organizations, including universities and think tanks.
