Desteptarea is a newspaper founded in 1989 and covering Bacau County. Since November 2023, the newspaper has had only one weekly printed edition (every Thursday). It runs Desteptarea.ro, a local news portal covering Bacau County. The newspaper’s publisher is a company founded and owned by the Sechelariu family from Bacau. The family is well-known in the region due to the controversial businessman Dumitru Sechelariu (who died in 2013). He had two mandates as Bacau mayor and was the owner of the local football team and other many businesses in town. After his death, Laudieta Sechelariu, his wife, has been holding the majority share in Desteptarea newspaper (63.72%).
