Originally a sports-focused portal, Fanatik.ro repositioned itself in the market and expanded into other areas beyond sports. As a result, it now has three main categories on its website: news, sports, and lifestyle. The sports category remains dominant in terms of content volume.
Fanatik magazine was first published in October 2004. It was founded by Silviu Prigoana, a controversial businessman and politician in Romania. He appointed sports journalist Horia Ivanovici as general manager. In 2006, the weekly magazine was bought by Ivanovici who further developed the brand through the television show Fanatik Show, the galas Fantasticii Fanatik and the website Fanatik.ro.Ivanovici remains the main shareholder of Fanatik Online, the publisher of Fanatik.ro with 95% shares while Prigoana kept its minority share of 5% with the company.
