Radio Son was founded in 1995 as a station covering Mures county, but it later expanded to the counties of Harghita and Sibiu. The Radio Son network holds audiovisual licenses for six local stations: Targu Mures, Sighisoara, Reghin, Ludus, Sovata and Toplita. The chain is owned by Petru Basa (55%) and Georgeta Basa (45%). Both Petru and Georgeta are shareholders in several other companies.
Petru Basa is a Romanian politician and businessman. He was a Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) senator representing Mures county in the 2008-2012 parliament. Later, he became the President of the Mures organization of the People’s Movement Party (PMP). The companies owned by Petru Basa, during his time as senator, were reportedly granted more than 600 public contracts.
