Gorjeanul is a local news portal covering Gorj county. Its publisher is jointly owned by brothers Dragos Viorel and Bogdan Marius Ionica. Their father appears as director of Gorjeanul. In 2009, Gorjeanul appeared as a daily newspaper, with a printed edition. It was taken over by Bebe Viorel Ionica (father of Dragos and Bogdan), a local politician and businessman. Bebe Viorel Ionica was an MP for the National Liberal Party (PNL), but then he switched to the Social Democratic Party (PSD) where he became the party’s vice president in Gorj county. Later, he was secretary of state in the Communication Ministry. In the local media claims were made that from his political position he had access to public funds and contracts that financed his businesses. For a relatively short period, Ionica also had the franchise for the local subsidiary of the Antena 1 channel in Targu Jiu.
