How the archive is organised

Three pillars, one comparative research programme

The reports are organised according to the three research areas used in the original MIM framework. Some countries produced all three report types; others contributed one or two. Several reports are available in more than one language.

14

Regulation & Policy Influence

Government, Politics and Media Regulation reports examining law, regulatory institutions, policy processes and political influence.

16

Funding & Financial Influences

Funding Journalism reports examining ownership, revenue, state support, advertising, philanthropy and economic dependence.

13

Technology & the Public Sphere

Reports examining platforms, digital infrastructure, distribution systems and technology’s impact on journalism and public communication.

Archive status: these reports were produced under the legacy MIM methodology and remain authoritative records of the research conducted at the time. New MIM work follows the 2025+ database-driven methodology. The two generations should not be conflated.

Reports, countries and methodology

This library is the direct report catalogue. The country index provides a market-by-market gateway, while the methodology pages explain the two generations of MIM research.

The archive is not the end of MIM

The project has moved into a new methodological phase

The reports in this library preserve the first generation of MIM research. From 2025 onward, MJRC began implementing a revised framework built around standardised entities, variables, relationships and time series. The first complete country outputs produced under that methodology are forthcoming.

Library reviewed September 2026. Catalogue corrections include restoring Czechia’s original Funding Journalism report link and placing Kazakhstan’s Funding Journalism report in the correct research pillar.
