Public GMFM research

Europe is the distinctive layer

The value of GMFM is not simply reproducing Alphabet’s consolidated accounts. It reconstructs the local corporate footprint from national filings and compares where revenue and profit are actually reported.

Featured study · published July 2025

Charting Google’s European Footprint: Revenue Streams, Profit Pools and Market Presence

The study tracks Google’s European financial structure from 2020 to 2023 and shows growing revenue alongside a sharp contraction in reported profit, with Ireland remaining the central European financial hub.

European corporate footprint

45 entities across 23 markets

Google’s European presence is not one company per country. Local market-facing firms sit alongside cloud-contracting companies, data-centre operators, payments entities, holding companies, R&D centres and acquired technology businesses.

Why entity-level work matters: Alphabet’s 2025 SEC subsidiary exhibit lists only its significant subsidiaries — Google LLC, XXVI Holdings Inc. and Alphabet Capital US LLC. That disclosure is not designed to show the granular European operating structure. GMFM therefore reconstructs the local layer from national company registries, statutory accounts and Google’s own legal/contracting documentation.
Platform power

Finance is only part of the footprint

For Tech & AI companies, GMFM should also show the scale of the gateways they control. This keeps the financial data connected to the company’s role in the information ecosystem.

DMA core platform services

Alphabet is designated for Google Play, Maps, Shopping, Search, YouTube, Android Mobile, online advertising and Chrome.

416.6m

YouTube EU monthly users

Current Commission DSA supervision data list YouTube as a VLOP with 416.6 million average monthly users in the EU.

364m

Google Search EU monthly users

Google Search is a VLOSE; the Commission’s current supervision page lists 364 million average monthly EU users.

This section makes the research depth visible without publishing the extracted data. It also signals clearly what distinguishes GMFM from a simple collection of company press releases.

National corporate registries & annual accounts The granular European layer that US group reporting does not expose: legal identity, accounts, capital, governance, shareholders and local-company changes. 23 mapped European markets

Market & industry evidence Digital advertising, search/browser/mobile market share, cloud and audience indicators used for market-context analysis. Market-power context
Current first-party examples: Google’s live contracting-entity documentation identifies Google Cloud EMEA Limited as the contracting entity for most of EMEA, with separate entities for France, Italy and Poland; its 2026 Cloud subprocessor lists help distinguish data-centre operations from service-maintenance roles. These first-party sources are cross-checked against local legal filings rather than treated as substitutes for them.
Central GMFM request system

Request Google data

Use the same GMFM data-request page as the country maps. The request can cover one local entity, a set of countries, a specific data layer or a cross-company comparison.

One Google / Alphabet entity Country-by-country European financial extract Ownership or infrastructure map Google vs Meta / TikTok / other platform comparison Custom research for regulators, investors or industry

Recommended request architecture: one central GMFM form, with company pages passing type=company and company=Google. A topic parameter can be added later so individual data cards prefill the requested data layer.
