Profile

Monitorul de Vrancea is a daily newspaper printed and distributed in Vrancea county. It was relaunched in 2002 when the newspaper’s editorial team quit and founded Ziarul de Vrancea. Monitorul de Vrancea also has its own news portal. The publication is allegedly a mouthpiece for the Social Democratic Party (PSD), especially close to Marian Oprisan, president of the PSD in Vrancea and former president of the Vrancea County Council for 20 years (2000-2020). Today, he is vice president of the Council in the 2020-2024 mandate. As a result of this relationship, other companies controlled by the publisher’s owner and the newspaper’s director Corina Trifan received public contracts in various areas, according to reports from local media. For the past ten years, the publisher had stable revenues of about €1m a year, yet very small profit.
