Press Media Electronic

Profile

Bogdan Chirieac worked for 15 years at Adevarul daily national newspaper from where he left his position as deputy editor-in-chief in 2005 along with three other journalists to launch Gandul, a new nationwide newspaper.

Chirieac resigned from Gandul in 2007 after Evenimentul zilei revealed that during the period when he was signing editorials about procurement contracts in the field of defense, the company in which he was a shareholder brokered deals with the state. In 2007, the Romanian Special Telecommunications Service awarded, without a tender, €24m in contracts to a company controlled by Chirieac, as reported by Evenimentul zilei at the time. After resigning from Gandul, Chirieac continued to appear on talk shows, including Realitatea TV, as an analyst.

In 2009, his journalist title was withdrawn by two media entities, due to accusations that Chirieac and another journalist, Sorin Rosca Stanescu, had allegedly blackmailed the head of the National Integrity Agency, a government body.

In 2010, Chirieac and Razvan Dumitrescu established a new company, Press Media Electronic, and launched an online newspaper, now known as DCNews. The publisher of the news portal remains the same company today, but without Dumitrescu as a shareholder. Its main shareholders are Chirieac (95%) and Valentin Vilcu (5%), a lecturer in the journalism faculty at the University in Bucharest.

Besides Dcnews.ro, Press Media Electronic also operates thematic news portals such as Stiridiaspora.ro, Dcbusiness.ro, Dcmedical.ro, and Defenseromania.ro.

DCNews has allegedly received public money and has been connected with political party interests for many years, according to media sources.
