Profile
Radio Fix 99,8 FM is a company running Radio Fix channel in Botosani county. The station is owned by Claudiu Asimionesei, a construction entrepreneur who also controls the Buna Ziua Iasi, Buna Ziua Cluj, Buna Ziua Vaslui and Buna Ziua Timisoara local news portals covering the counties of Iasi, Cluj, Vaslui and Timisoara, respectively. Asimionesei runs those portals via the company Global Impex Distribution, fully owned by him.
Asimionesei took over the family businesses from his father, Ghiocel Florin Asimionesei, who used to control the daily Ziua de Iasi. An investigation by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) established that several businessmen and heads of public institutions were blackmailed through this newspaper, which requested funding in the form of advertising contracts in exchange for not criticizing them in the newspaper. In 2013, Ghiocel the father was definitively sentenced in this case to three years and six months in prison with suspension.
After the rights to Ziua de Iași franchise ended, Asimionesei’s family founded Buna Ziua Iași, another local daily and a business officially owned by Ghiocel’s son. A part of the local media criticized the publication for having certain political and economic interests, including its friendship with the controversial mayor of Iasi city, Mihai Chirica. Approvals for the real estate investments made by the Asimionesei family depended on Chirica’s office.
